NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust

LAndholder DOCUMEnTARY Case Study

The Project

The NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) needed to stand apart, to be seen both as an integral part of the NSW State Government environment portfolio, and at the same as an approachable and trustworthy organisation made up of passionate individuals working one-on-one with private landholders.

We worked over the period of a year to redefine the BCT’s visual brand, to create a stand-out visual identity and brand story for the Trust.

Video production

Wanting to tell the stories behind the conservation agreements, the BCT approached us seeking the production of a series of short documentaries about the conservation efforts of landholders across NSW. We identified a diverse list of characters to feature, and told their stories in their own words. The videos were hugely successful, and used to promote the importance of biodiversity conservation across NSW.

Belltrees

In this example, BCT agreement holder Mike Richardson shares the incredible story of how he came to be one of Australia’s leading conservationists.

Oxley Station

Paraway Environment and Sustainability Manager Paul McDougall discusses the economic advantages of the conservation agreement on their commercial property, and how it aligns with the values of the company.

Image Library Creation

Along with a range of video production, we developed and maintain an image library for the Trust, which serves as an internally housed resource of stock images for use across their digital and printed media. In doing so we have created a unique visual language for the BCT - providing them with iconic, advertising-quality images.

NSW Local Land Services

Project Documentary Case Study

The Project

The NSW Hunter Local Land Services (LLS) has been working to develop a nationally recognised training program for Aboriginal Fire practitioners.

We worked with LLS to develop a documentary on the project which balances the needs of a Government organisation while respecting and celebrating the importance of traditional knowledge and land management practices.

DOCUMENTARY PRODUCTION

Hunter LLS approached us with a brief to document the traditional land management project occurring at Paynes Crossing in the NSW Hunter Valley. We identified that there was more to the story, and spent several days on location filming over 9 hours of interviews to produce an in-depth documentary which covers not only the work being supported by LLS, but also highlights the importance of the regeneration of traditional knowledge through cultural burning practices. The resulting video (above) satisfies both the needs of LLS while giving a genuine and respectful voice to the indigenous custodians of the land.

Social Media Cutdown

We also delivered a cutdown version of the final documentary for use on social media, as a way to entice the Hunter LLS audience to engage with the longer form content. This cutdown included some of the highlights from our interviews and was delivered with baked in captions to ensure literacy of the content on phones and devices without audio.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Alongside the production of a documentary, we captured a variety of stills photography on the day, creating a diverse visual record which could be utilised in both print and digital formats.

Austroads

PROJECT REPORT VIDEO Case Study

The Project

Austroads reached out to us with a need to produce a video report documenting some of their work for which they had been nominated for an industry award.

With an incredibly short time frame, we developed and delivered a high-quality and engaging video.

VIDEO PRODUCTION

Given the tight timeframe, we worked with Austroads to develop and engaging script based on their brief. From there, we remotely produced the bulk of the video, utilising professional voice over talent and stock footage to pull together a draft. We also organised a quick on-location multi camera interview shoot with a key staff member on the project, to give a more personal voice to the video and round out the project. The result - conceptualised, produced and delivered in under a week from initial engagement - is a video that met their immediate needs, and will stand the test of time as a visual report on the project.
